Madreperola quartzite from Brazil blends creamy beige and soft gray tones with gentle veining and movement, a calm, natural palette that brings warmth to kitchens and baths. Its name means mother of pearl in Portuguese, and it is also sold as Montebello, Montecarlo, and Mother of Pearl. As a quartzite, it’s harder than marble and most granites, handles heat well, and can be used indoors and outdoors. Madreperola comes in polished and brushed finishes in 2cm and 3cm slabs and needs periodic sealing to stay stain resistant.

Frequently Asked Questions

expand all answers
  • Madreperola is a natural quartzite quarried in Brazil, with a creamy beige and gray palette and soft veining. Quartzite forms when sandstone is transformed by heat and pressure, which makes it very hard and durable. Madreperola gives you a light, marble-like look with more resistance to scratches and heat than marble.

  • Both are Brazilian quartzites in the cream family, and Granite Selection carries both. Taj Mahal has a warm cream background with soft golden and taupe veining. Madreperola mixes its cream base with more gray, so it reads slightly cooler and works well in kitchens that combine warm and gray finishes.

  • Madreperola is priced per request. Quartzite generally costs more than standard granite because it’s harder to cut and requires specialized fabrication. Your final price depends on the slab you select, thickness, finish, edge profile, and square footage. Contact Granite Selection for a Chicago-area estimate.

📏 How to Measure Your Countertop
▼

Choose your countertop shape and measure in inches:

Essential Measurement Tips:
  • Measure in inches: Use a tape measure and record all dimensions in inches for accuracy.
  • Account for overhangs: Standard overhang is 1–1.5 inches beyond cabinet edges.
  • Consider appliances: Measure around cooktops, sinks, and other fixtures that will be cut out.
  • Check for walls: If installing against walls, measure the actual wall length as walls may not be perfectly straight.
  • New construction: If you don't have existing countertops, measure the cabinet boxes and add overhang allowances.

Accurate measurement is the most critical step in your countertop project. Even small errors can result in expensive mistakes, material waste, or ill-fitting slabs. We strongly recommend scheduling a professional template measurement with our team.
